The young forward bagged a hat-trick to send his team through to the national finals in Lagos, and has his eyes on the big prize

Fittingly, the final day of the Kaduna Regional competition saw its topscorer collect the CliqLite Man of the Match Award.

Benjamin Yakubu is an enterprising forward, who is capable of finishing in a number of different ways.

Unsurprisingly, it is with reigning Fifa Ballon D’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo that the GHUKUC Bauchi player most identifies, and he credits constant practice for his efficiency in front of goal.

“While in Bauchi, we got a lot of good training. So I am always working on my finishing,” he toldGoal.

“I try to copy Cristiano Ronaldo - he’s the player I want to be like.”

His nine-goal haul in the regional competition would certainly have made his idol proud. With GHUKUC joining Sokoto as the second qualifier from the region, Yakubu fired off a note of warning to opposing defenders.

“I expect us to go to Lagos and win,” he said.

Goals win games, and with top marksman Yakubu in top form, Bauchi will certainly have a say at the national finals.
